Intellectual Property Mediator/Arbitrator                                                     Expert Witness


Mr. Taylor is a registered mediator in the State of Indiana and has completed the mediation training courses provided by the Indiana Continuing Legal Education forum and the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution of Pepperdine University School of Law.  He is also a member of the International Trademark Association's Panel of Neutrals and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Panel of Lanham Act Neutrals.  Mr. Taylor has been involved in the mediation and/or settlement of over a hundred intellectual property cases.  Mr. Taylor is available to provide mediation services for any interested parties.

Mr. Taylor has been an expert witness in connection with a number of litigated intellectual property matters.  In particular, he served as an expert and was deposed  in connection with the evaluation of the intellectual property of Baldwin United Corporation in connection with Baldwin United Corporation's Bankruptcy.  He was retained and deposed as a patent damages expert for Arachnid, Inc. in connection with patent litigation against London Distributing, Corp. and Merrit Industries, Inc.  He was retained and deposed as a patent office practice expert for Uniden Corporation of America, Inc. against AOR Limited and Crum Development Corporation.  He was deposed and testified at trial as a patent expert on design patent infringement and validity for ILCO Corporation in the case of Best Locks Corp. v. ILCO Corp.  He was retained by Innotek Pet Products, Inc. as a patent expert in a case against Radio Systems, Inc.  He was retained by Chubb Custom Insurance Co. as expert on reasonable compensation for patent defense.  He was deposed and testified at trial as an expert witness on the issues of inequitable conduct and willful infringement for Gerdes GmbH in the case of Stant, Inc. v. Gerdes GmbH.  He was retained by and deposed as an expert witness on the issue of inventorship in the case of Goff v. Harrah's Operating Co. Inc. et al.

Jay G. Taylor is a former partner with the Intellectual Property Group of the firm of Ice Miller LLP.  Mr. Taylor received a B.S.M.E. degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1964 and a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Indiana University in 1967, and was elected to the Order of Coif.  He is admitted to practice before the Courts of the States of Indiana and Illinois, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, Western District of Michigan and the Northern District of Illinois (Trial Bar), the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal, Second and Seventh Circuits, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. 

In his forty years of practice, Mr. Taylor has been involved in hundreds of intellectual property cases involving such diverse technological fields as computers and digital equipment, computer software, mechanical and electro-mechanical devices, pollution control apparatus, electronic equipment, ceramic compositions, ultraviolet curable inks, medical and dental devices and products, chemical compositions and processes, micro-dialysis probes, hearing protection devices, gasoline distribution devices, high voltage electrical transmission equipment and plastic molding processes.
